English health info organised for student health week

The student wellbeing week Small Changes for Good Health returns from 28 September to 2 October 2026, with a focus on the everyday choices that influence our wellbeing. Of course, health-related choices are not made in isolation. They are shaped by the attitudes and values of our friends, families, and the society around us.

How strictly should we follow healthy lifestyle habits? Does it matter if the effects of our choices may not become visible until decades later? And what if you would like to change some of your habits but do not know where to start?

During Small Changes for Good Health Week, FSHS will organise three events; one in Finnish, one in Swedish, and one in English.

In addition to these nationwide events, some FSHS service units may organise their own local events during the week, either at service units or on higher education institution campuses.

Small Changes for Good Health Week Events from 28 September to 2 October 2026

Advance registration is required for all events. Registration links are listed under each event.

Tuesday, 29 September 2026 at 2 p.m.: Ask a Public Health Nurse, English-language event

In this online session, which is especially intended for international students, questions will be answered by FSHS Public Health Nurse Hanna-Mari Smale. Ask anything health-related, but please keep it general so other participants can also benefit from the advice! Do not share detailed accounts about your own personal health, either.

Wednesday, 30 September 2026 at 2 p.m.: Webinar on Hope for the Future, Swedish-language event

How can we maintain hope in a world that is becoming increasingly complex and uncertain? Psychologist Jennifer Söderlund will discuss how to build a future that reflects your own goals and values despite the challenges around us.

Thursday, 1 October 2026 at 2 p.m.: Small Choices, Long-Term Impact – Towards a More Mindful Relationship with Substances, Finnish-language event

How are substances reflected in today’s student culture? What kinds of meanings are attached to them from the perspectives of community, wellbeing, study ability, and leisure time? And what does a mindful, wellbeing-supportive relationship with substances look like?

Speakers include addiction medicine specialist Kaarlo Simojoki and student representatives Aada Aho (National Union of University Students in Finland) and Laura Laakso (SAMOK, the Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences).
