Due to the exceptionally high demand for influenza vaccines there are nationwide problems concerning the availability of the vaccine, which are also affecting the FSHS. In other words, the supply of the vaccine is smaller than the demand. The FSHS is following the instructions made by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (only available in Finnish) in prioritizing the vaccine first for those who need it the most. Please note, that local differences might exist and if the FSHS cannot provide you a vaccine then you can contact your local health center to inquire about the possibility to receive it from there. You can find the contact details for your health center from your own service units’ website.
Those students who belong to one or several risk groups as defined by THL (the National Institute for Health and Welfare) and those who study medicine can receive the vaccination free of charge in case the vaccine is available. Depending on where you are studying you can get the vaccination either through the FSHS or the municipal health center. Local praxis on how the vaccine is provided varies. Therefore, read the more exact local instructions below.
Moreover, those students who do not belong to a risk group can call the FSHS in order to request a vaccine prescription which can be brought on personal expense from a pharmacy. Thereafter, the FSHS will conduct the vaccination itself. While in some cities this will be conducted by the municipal health centers.
Read the instructions on how to take care of your business at the FSHS during the coronavirus epidemic before coming to a FSHS service unit.
