The Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) is initiating change negotiations to address planned changes to the organisation and its management system and service model.
The change negotiations will concern the entire FSHS staff, comprising some 1,200 employees. The primary purpose of the planned changes is not staff reduction; however, as part of the planned changes, the negotiations could lead to a staff reduction of up to 15 employees.
Due to the planned changes, significant modifications could be expected in the terms of employment of some FSHS employees.
“The reason why these changes are needed is the new FSHS strategy. Constantly improving the services we provide for students is and will continue to be at the core of our operations. In our strategy, we’ve set development goals for our foundation, which can only be achieved by making changes to our management, organisation and service model – the way we provide our services. Changes such as the new digital service platform to be launched next spring will result in shifts in both students’ and the FSHS’s activities”, says FSHS Managing Director Annika Saarikko.
The goals set in the FSHS strategy involve increased student centricity, service availability and equality, technological development and a streamlined organisation with clearer management and administration structures.
The FSHS is also aiming to become a stronger partner for higher education institutions and wellbeing services counties and a more highly visible expert in student healthcare. With the organisational changes, it isn’t seeking to reduce of the number of service units.
“The FSHS has acted in its current form, providing services for all students in higher education, for five years now. The strengths and weaknesses of the current operations model are now known to the extent where a reorganisation is possible. The FSHS must address the changing expectations of students by providing services more comprehensively with the help of multidisciplinary teams as well as digitally and by moderately extending our opening hours”, says Chair of the FSHS Board of Trustees Tuomo Yli-Huttula.
The first change negotiation will take place on 24 November 2025. The goal is to complete all negotiations by Christmas time.
