Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae and transmitted during sexual intercourse and oral sex.
According to the National Infectious Diseases Register maintained by the National Institute for Health and Welfare, 288 cases of gonorrhoea were diagnosed in Finland in 2011.
Condoms are the only contraceptive method that also protects against gonorrhoea and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). It is important to use a condom during oral sex as well!
