LABORATORY EXAMINATIONS

Appointments and laboratory tests: To make an appointment call 046 710 6517 from Monday to Thursday between 13.30 and 14.30 or 046 710 1063 from Monday to Thursday between 8.00 and 15.00 and Fridays between 8.00 and 14.00. Laboratory tests are available from Monday to Thursday between 7.00 and 10.30 and on Fridays between 9.00 and 10.30 (you will need an FSHS referral). Urgent laboratory tests can be taken without a prior appointment in the mornings from Monday to Friday. Please take a queuing number when you arrive and wait for your turn.

Other things to remember: Laboratory examinations are only available if you have a referral by an FSHS doctor or nurse. Please note that you may have to fast before your laboratory test. If the test name code begins with the letter f (such as in fP-Gluk), you may not eat anything for 10-12 hours before the test.

IMAGING EXAMINATIONS

X-ray, ultrasound and other examinations are only available if necessary on referral by an FSHS doctor as separately instructed.

We email all first-year students a health inquiry form and invite them, if necessary, to a personal health discussion. Appointments with specialists are subject to a fee.

First appointments and acute appointments with a physiotherapist are only available if you have a referral by an FSHS doctor or nurse. You can make an appointment for consultations such as posture advice, ergonomics and muscular care consultation or physical activity and relaxation consultation (referral not needed).

Medicine prescriptions are valid for one year from the date given on them. If you have agreed with a doctor on prescription renewal or you have seen an FSHS doctor about the prescription and you would like to have the prescription renewed, you can organise the renewal without an appointment. Bring the prescription to our appointment reservations office. You can pick up the renewed prescription within 7 days,  excluding sleeping tablets and psychiatric medication, which can only be renewed at a doctor's appointment.

Birth control prescription renewals: For birth control prescriptions you will need to see a doctor and have a cervical smear (Pap test) taken every 3 years. In the meanwhile you can leave your prescription with our appointment reservations staff for renewal when you make a "self-care visit".

Allergy medication prescription renewals: You can drop your allergy medication prescription in the locked letter box on the wall of our appointment reservations office. You can pick up the renewed prescription from the office in one week's time.
