We have now sent all new students in Kuopio an invitation to fill in the health inquiry. If you are a first-year student and did not receive an email invitation to fill in the health inquiry, please call or visit us.

Treatment need assessments and appointments: Call 046 710 1076 from Monday to Thursday between 8.00 and 15.00 and Fridays from 8.00 to 14.00. In urgent cases you should contact us in the morning between 8.00 and 9.00.
If you fall ill, you can see a public health nurse without an appointment. Just walk in from Monday to friday between 8.00 and 10. Our public health nurse will assess your need for treatment, give treatment instructions or, if necessary, make an appointment with a general practitioner or other doctor or nurse.

Other things to remember: The public health nurse is on call for morning appointments without a prior reservation from Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 10.00 a.m. This service is intended for urgent cases of ill health. At other times you need to make an appointment.

LABORATORY Laboratory examinations are only available if you have a referral by an FSHS doctor or puplic health nurse.
Exceptions to our regular service hours: Only urgent tests are available on New Year's Eve, Maundy Thursday and 30 April.
LABORATORY TEST AND APPOINTMENTS: You will need an appointment for tests. To make an appointment call 046 7101076 from Monday to Thursday between 8.00-15.00 and Fridays from 8.00 to 14.00.
Laboratory is open Mon-Thurs 8-9. When you arrive at the laboratory please take a queuing number under LABORATORY TESTS.
How to cancel an appointment: Call our automated telephone service on 047 710 1077 no later than om the business day before your appointment or use the appointment cancellation form. When using the online cancellation form, select the health centre, general health and write `laboratory `as the recipient.
We charge a penalty fee of 25€ for no-show appointments.
HOW TO TAKE A SAMPLE AT HOME:
For instructions and sample containers for samples taken at home, visit the reception on a business day between 8.00 and 15.00
You can drop your sample off at the laboratory from Mon to Thurs by nine o´clock in the morning. Remember to follow the instructions proveided by our laboratory staff regarding your specific sample.
LABORATORY TEST RESULTS:
Instructions regarding how and from whom you will receive the results of your laboratory tests are provided by the FSHS staff member who gave you the referral for the tests. (Results are not available from our lab staff.) If you were not informed about this, make a phone appointment with your doctor/public health nurse on 046 710 1076

IMAGING EXAMINATIONS
Our imaging examinations include bone and dental X-ray examinations, ultrasound examinations, spirometry tests and electrocardiography (EKG). These examinations are available on referral by an FSHS doctor, with EKG also being available on referral by an FSHS public health nurse.
You will need to book an appointment in advance for ultrasound examinations, spirometry tests, special dental imaging and pelvic and lumbar spine X-ray examinations.

Monday to Thursday between 8.00 and 15.00 and Fridays from 8.00-14.00.

Physiotherapy is available as an outsourced service on the basis of a referral by an FSHS doctor. The service mainly consists of guidance and advice. Individual treatment is available on a limited basis.

Medicine prescriptions are valid for one year from the date given on them. If you have agreed with a doctor on prescription renewal or you have seen an FSHS doctor about the prescription and you would like to have the prescription renewed, you can organise the renewal without an appointment. Bring the prescription to our appointment reservations office. You can pick up the renewed prescription within 7 days.
Birth control prescription renewals: For birth control prescriptions you will need to see a doctor and have a cervical smear (Pap test) taken every 3 years. In the meanwhile you can leave your prescription with our appointment reservations staff for renewal when you make a "self-care visit".

Other things to remember: Assessments of mental health and functioning are carried out by psychiatrists. Psychiatrists are also responsible for medication and provide any medical statements necessary. Therapy sessions can also take place more infrequently.

The psychologist offers students shorter-term mental health advice and psychotherapy. In most cases these involve 1 to 5 sessions, but the counselling can also take longer if necessary.
