Foreign students’ MMR immunisation to be boosted

The National Institute for Health and Welfare recommends that particular attention should be paid at educational institutions to foreign students' measles vaccination cover and, if necessary, supplementary immunisation should be offered until the end of June 2012.

If a student has not had measles, two doses of the MMR vaccine are needed for full cover against the disease. Vaccine ordered free of charge from the National Institute of Health and Welfare can be used to vaccinate foreign students. Measles is one of the most contagious of the infectious diseases found in Finland. It also spreads efficiently in an immunised population via under- or unvaccinated people.
